In commemoration of Women’s History Month, U.S. Congressman David Cicilline (D-RI) issued the following statement today:
“This March is Women’s History Month, a time to reflect on the extraordinary contributions that women have made to American society from colonial times all the way through today. Nowhere is this more apparent than my home state of Rhode Island. From Anne Hutchinson to Viola Davis, Rhode Island women have often stood at the forefront of the national discourse and even helped to shape the course of global events.”
“During a year in which we have already seen more than our share of vitriol regarding issues important to women’s health, we recognize the importance of continuing to fight discrimination wherever it exists. Whether it occurs on talk radio, at an American workplace, or in a country halfway around the world, such practices must not be tolerated and we should all work together to end gender-based discrimination no matter what form it takes.”
