Editor's note: This statement was submitted by Thomas Rose Jr., current city council candidate.
I understand East Providence. I am a father, a brother, a son, a small businessman, a neighbor, a mentor, a citizen and a customer. I am like every person in this city. I am always ready to listen to differing and new perspectives. I work on every issue with a sense of fairness and desire to do what is in the best interest of the entire city of East Providence. I put on all of the different hats of our citizens in order to think through creative solutions. Then, I respond and act on behalf of Ward 3. I try to understand each citizen’s personal needs and views. Over this past term, I helped hundreds of constituents solve individual problems throughout the city. Sometimes, it required extra effort and finesse to clean up empty lots or make sure streets were plowed. But, I truly understand and appreciate that I am elected by YOU to ensure that your daily interactions with the city make your life easier, not harder.
Finally, I should be reelected because there is plenty more work to be done. I am the right person to continue working hard for East Providence. It has been a busy term. I will continue to work on streamlining the city approval and permitting processes. We can do this by creating a “one-stop” shop for business interests looking to relocate or expand to East Providence. By doing so, we will provide a sense of assurance to business interests. Where we can, we should avoid permit approvals that add extra unnecessary months to the permit process costing the new business time and money.
We are all struggling with the current economic situation, wondering how we are going to put food on our tables, afford our energy costs and improve education so that our children will see a better future. I should be elected because I plan to work hard each day, listening to you and acting on creative thoughtful solutions to make all of our lives easier, and our futures brighter.
Thank you,
Thomas Rose

An elected official is suppose to work and represent the people and Tommy Rose does that each and everyday. He responds to every call regardless if it is major or minor whether it is 11AM or 11PM whether it is Monday or Sunday,he is always available, not because he has to but because he cares. Thanks for everything you do. Support Tommy Rose on Sept.11th

It is sometimes difficult to separate the personal from the professional. To be a good leader, you have to be a good person, but not all good persons are good leaders. Jimmy Carter was, and still is, a good person, but was a terrible president. I'm sure that Mr. Rose is responsive, and helpful. However, the fact that he is associated with the most unseemly characters of the City's political underbelly, and that he falls in line based on their lead, shows a weakness of will that makes for a very bad councilman. He does not deserve to be re-elected.

Certainly that is your opinion. At the end of the day it is about making decisions. You will always have some that will agree and some that will disagree. You also expect that your leaders will respond to your own needs at times, could be street needs re-plowing,tree needs to be cut, certainly not effecting the city but the individual, you do not get that from everyone but you get that from Tommy all the time. I also look at the political decisions and most importantly how it has effected us in this city and ward 3 and know without a doubt he should be re-elected.

Paul,
You couldn't say it any better. A good person does not always translate to one that has the capacity to lead the city out of the mess it is in now.
While Tommy may have responded to calls at all hours, in reality folks that make these calls (for example) at 11:00pm don't generally have an issue that can't wait until morning.
The most important factor here, is his lack of leadership on the city council. He is in with what I would consider the "Bad element" within the city. The democratic city committee. Look at a few of the names associated with this group...Rogers, Rossi, Katie, (although she will be gone) DaSilva, should I keep going?? look at their records and more importantly the special interests they represent.
On a final note...overdue water bills...why does the city look the other way? It's called connections. Failure to file the required ethnic commission report on time (It is not a complicated form to fill out (I have filled out a few when I was on the city's recreation committee)
As someone stated above...who wrote this for you tommy...is that why it wasn't submitted on time with the others?? I know, you were probably the kid in school with the excuse of "The dog ate my homework." (BTW has anyone noticed the that many of rogers and rose's press releases look like they were written by the same person)
Please voters of East Providence...do your homework and clean house of the riff raff that contributed to this being the worst council of all time.

Bruce as usual you hit the nail right on the head. The puppet supporters are getting mad that the truth is coming back to bite their people in the ass....embly of new information and the fact that once the bell has been rung it tends to become undeniable and resounds every time a new lie is spoken. The people of EP are seeing how dislikable the national and state campaigns have become and the puppet masters keep hoping that the past will go away before the elections arrive. But the past deeds, and misdeeds, seem to have a brave new energy and the dog whistle cries are just ringing the bell louder. GET OUT THE VOTE !!!

Why are you so angry? Always have personal attacks against the people you choose not to like. Bottom line it is your opinion. By the way how as supporting the minority worked for you in Riverside...Digioia????? Bet we see him at the state house with his bud Conley.

I agree...Bruce...why are you so angry....have you no idea how many people have late bills...it is what it is...my water bill is late...I don't have the money to give a full payment for it...but the city keeps taxing on the late interest on the bill until I can catch up...maybe the guy doesn't have and maybe he does but he isn't going to escape from the late fees...are you crazy...I am sure and I mean sure..no one is looking the other way...he's an elected official in these days...not the old days but these days.....no one looks the other way....and besides were not the water bills his fathers bills....why does that tarnish him....where does it say that when you become an elected official...that you need to be the best speaker and the smartest person....you need to be someone that will speak for you and work for your best interest's....The City has their financial planners and City Manager to do all the smart stuff...remember we don't have a strong Mayor form of Govt.....if that is what you want and I feel we need then make them put it on the Ballot and lets get one...look back at some of the sheep herders we had on this council...yeah the smarts of a sheep herder...but they did get stuff done and they were very powerful...This guy doesn't seem to be looking for anything but just a maybe a thanks for getting some important things to citizens done...and knowing that he made someone happy or feel better about the city they live in....

If people think the only public officials who need to be able to do "smart stuff" are financial planners and the city manager, we really are in trouble! I want all of my public officials to be able to do "smart stuff."
On another issue, unless people have committed some crime, I think personal finances should be just that, personal. Since when are our personal bills for public discussion?

Personal bills are public when the mayor of the city forgives hundreds of dollars of payment from Rose. There are many people who can't afford to pay their bills. Rose and the rest of the city council should be accountable for their fees just like all of us paying our bills in this pathetically run city.

The mayor has the authority to forgive unpaid bills owed the city? That is my first, "Wow! I didn't know that!" My second is, "Are private payments/nonpayments for services such as water public in this city? Wow! I didn't know that either." How do people know this stuff? I must be one of those people that Head&Shoulders refered to as "...having the smarts of a sheep herder."

Wish I could give you something to go on but nothing there. my friend tried for about a month.

My final comment. If someone is having their bills wrongly expunged, I would like to know, as that is illegal. If they are late in their payment, I do not need to know. I consider that a gross invasion of privacy. No one that I know, other than my husband, has never been late paying a bill. If you continually don't pay your water bill, it gets shut off. If you miss paying property tax on your house, your house goes up for sale. Punishment enough. I don't understand the need to rifle through someone's trash to find fault. Is judging a politician by their record of service not enough of a measure to determine if they deserve our vote or not? (Look at how the Democrates still revere Bill Clinton. In my mind, what he did was a lot more immoral than being late with a water bill!) Enough said, willing to admit I am of an older generation.
