$9M Project Approved to Renovate, Remove Asbestos in East Providence Schools

RIHEBC issued a bond to pay for the renovation project.

The budget commission secured a bond though RIHEBC that will be used to finance a $9 million project that will renovate East Providence schools.

Renovation  months ago while commission members searched for funding.

Mary King, finance director for the school department, messaged Farrar & Associates, the firm hired to design and execute the plans, immediately after commission members approved the project on Thursday afternoon.

"I am so happy," she said. "We're hopeful to get everything done by the summer."

The Rhode Island Department of Health will also be happy with the news. Officials mandated air testing for asbestos and the removal of the agent at . According to members of Farrar & Associates, project menagers will work with environmental experts to make sure asbestos is removed.
