Bridge Reopens Year Ahead of Time
The North Broadway bridge at Roger Williams Avenue in East Providence reopened this morning; the original construction schedule called for closure until next November.
The North Broadway bridge at Roger Williams Avenue in East Providence opened this morning, Nov. 16, about a year ahead of the original construction schedule.
Traffic resumed north and south after a crew from D’Ambra Construction finished up some work and removed construction barriers, said Bryant Lucier, a spokesman for the RI Department of Transportation.
The $2.8 million project was a complete replacement of both the north and south spans of the Ten Mile Bridge, said Lucier. Originally, the construction timetable called for closure until November of 2013.
“D'Ambra worked with the Agawam Hunt Club to get access to their property so they could work on both bridges at the same time,” said Lucier.
Work began in January of this year. The completion couldn’t have been happier news to the owner of Brothers Gas on the corner of North Broadway and Roger Williams Avenue.
“It almost put me out of business,” he said. “But I hung in there. Another year, I don’t know.”
Lucier said there will be some type of reopening ceremony at the bridge in the next couple of weeks.

It's amazing how quickly a project can come together when they put their minds to it. Usually they milk this projects for as long as possible. RIDOT is still a joke and needs an overhaul.
