Bullet From Mishandled Magnum Grazes Teenager's Face

Matthew Stuttard, 26, of 124 Waterman Ave. in East Providence, was charged with firing a handgun in a compact area after he allegedly shot a bullet through a residential house.

East Providence Police officers arrested a Waterman Avenue man on Saturday, May 5, after a bullet shot from his .357 Magnum in his apartment traveled through a neighboring house and almost hit a teenage boy playing video games.

Matthew Stuttard, 26, of 124 Waterman Ave. in East Providence, was charged with firing a handgun in a compact area at approximately 1 p.m. According to Captain Richard Frazier, he was in his second floor apartment showing a friend his the revolver when it went off. The bullet exited through the wall of his apartment and shot through the first floor living room of a house located at 120 Waterman Ave.

According to reports, the bullet nearly hit a 16-year-old boy playing X-Box, missing his face by six inches.

"When the bullet entered the house the plaster from the wall ended up all over the 16 year old, but he was not hurt," wrote Capt. Frazier.

The bullet continued through another wall in the living room, finally becoming lodged in a downstairs bedroom closet. Officers allegedly recovered the bullet from the closet, seized the gun and charged Stuttard.

According to reports from neighbors, the bullet also almost hit children located in one of the apartment rooms.
