Callista Gingrich Reads to East Providence Children

The wife of presidential candidate Newt Gingrich visited the Weaver Library.

Callista Gingrich made a brief visit to the Weaver Library to read from her book 'Sweet Land of Liberty' to a small group of East Providence families on Tuesday morning. Ellis, a costumed elephant, sat next to the media company mogul.

The book, which celebrates America and features Ellis as a main character, was "well received" by the audience said Youth Services Coordinator Pamela Schweiger.

A woman in attendance with two small children gave Gingrich a small Alex and Ani elephant charm bracelet.

"It was a little gift," Schweiger recounted. "[The woman] said, 'Here's something from Rhode Island I thought you'd like.'"

According to the librarian, Gingrich also stopped by a Middletown library.

As a parent attending (unfortunately at the end of the reading) the Weaver Library with my two children and their two cousins, we met Mrs. C. Gingrich and she was very pleasant and friendly. Mrs. Pam Schweiger is an awesome lady and my daughters adore her! Mrs. Pam is always having/creating something positive for the children in the community. A great library to visit and great people who work their, thank you for your educational services and hard work. Karen Cahir
