Documents Collected for Shredder
A 'shred-a-thon" was held Wednesday at East Providence City Hall to collect confidential documents and keep them away from identity thieves.
Boxes and boxes of confidential documents to be shredded were stacked inside a Doc Shredding Corp. box truck at East Providence City Hall Wednesday afternoon. Non-perishable foods were dropped into barrels for the RI Community Food Bank.
Wednesday was a “shred-a-thon” for documents people wanted to protect from identity thieves. It ran from noon to 2 pm. They were asked to donate food at the same time.
Two representatives from the RI Attorney General's Office were on hand.
"We do this once a year during National Consumer Protection Week (March 4-9)," said Amy Drumm.
RI Attorney General Peter Kilmartin and Rep. Helio Melo and Sen. Daniel DaPonte of East Providence co-sponsored the "shred-a-thon."
