DUI Attorney Faces 2nd DUI

An East Providence attorney who specializes in drunk driving cases has been charged for a second time with a DUI – this time in East Providence.
Layne C. Savage will go to court tomorrow, Jan. 17, to face the DUI charge.
Separate charges of refusing to submit to a chemical test, second offense; leaving the scene of an accident, and failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle will go before the RI Traffic Tribunal at a later date, according to East Providence police.
She was charged by East Providence police on Sunday evening, Jan. 13, after her vehicle crashed into a parked vehicle at 512 Warren Ave. The crash pushed the other car into a pole; her vehicle stopped several hundred feet away.
Savage was arrested by Barrington police last March and faced similar charges. Those charges were dismissed in District Court because police officers had not personally witnessed her driving erractically before pulling her over. They did find open bottles of alcohol in her vehicle.
Savage lives in the Village Green North apartment complex in East Providence. On Sunday, according to East Providence police, she struck a Nissan Murano vehicle registered to a Valley Brook Drive man.
The police report says that officers found her behind the wheel of a white Ford Explorer crying, confused and with slurred speech.
An East Providence rescue vehicle took her to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment, where she allegedly became agitated and needed to be restrained.
East Providence police have requested subpoenas for her medical records from the hospital to help determine her blood alcohol level.

Alcoholism is found in all professions, cultures, races, and economic classes, not just the homeless and drop-outs.
It is treated as a sickness and, with help, treatable for some with a will to adjust.
Losing her law license is unlikely, not necessary, and counter-productive to treatment.
Hope she straightens herself out. Others have.

to rags1, how is taking her law license away counter productive? Her degree in protecting drunk drivers does nothing positive. It continues to enable distructive behavior which contributes to ruining innocent victims lives. Accountability is lost and these drunks hide behind pathetic excuses and blame addiction problems to continue this homicidal behavior. And RI continues to dismiss these actions until on of thier own is affected.
