DUI Attorney Pleads Not Guilty to Second Drunk-Driving Charge

Layne C. Savage of East Providence allegedly was driving drunk when her vehicle crashed into a parked vehicle on Warren Avenue last Sunday evening.

An East Providence lawyer who specializes in DUI cases pleaded not guilty in 6th District Court on Thursday, Jan. 17, to East Providence police charges that she was driving drunk when her vehicle struck another vehicle on Warren Avenue.

It is the second time she has been charged with a DUI in the past year – the first time was in Barrington last March.

Layne C. Savage, 32, of Village Green North, was released on her own recognizance Thursday, according to the Providence Journal. She faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, first offense and refusal to submit to a chemical test, second offense.

Savage’s next court date is in three weeks, Feb. 8.

She was charged on Sunday evening, Jan. 13, after her vehicle reportedly crashed into a parked vehicle at 512 Warren Ave. Officers reportedly found her behind the wheel of her SUV crying, confused and with slurred speech.

The Barrington charges were dismissed in District Court because police officers had not personally witnessed her driving erractically before pulling her over after they received a 911 call. Barrington police did find open bottles of alcohol in her vehicle.

David D. Curtin, the Supreme Court's chief disciplinary counsel, said he is monitoring the progress of Savage's case, according to the Journal. He is quoted as saying: "Everybody has a presumption of innocence. Obviously, we'll await the outcome to decide what steps to take."

Never mind guilt or innocence(although you do have the convoluted, cumbersome RI DUI laws on your side), just get the help you need

Thanks for this article. I think its surprising to hear what cases are actually taken. I knew a DUI Lawyer in Moline IL that took absurd cases that I thought were pointless, but he was still able to pull of a settlement. http://www.hanna-law.com/legal.htm
