E.P. Schools to Reopen Tuesday

Streets, sidewalks, parking lots in good enough shape to reopen the East Providence Public Schools on Tuesday.

There will be school in East Providence Tuesday.

The streets and sidewalks near all of the city schools and the parking lots at them are all in good enough shape to open the schools, said City Manager Peter Graczykowski.

The schools will reopen after a couple of days of closure wrapped around the weekend of the Blizzard of 2013.

"We still need to ask people to clear the snow from their sidewalks," said Graczykowski. "We're not going after anyone right away. But we want to keep students off the streets."

I went by Myron j Francis school in rumford and there is still snow covering ALL the sidewalks and the only path to the school was the main enterance! And none of the sidewalks are sholved so when my kids get off the bus they have to walk in the street home something needs to be done NOW I do NOT want my 2nd and 4th grader walking in the street and no I do not have a car to pick them up!!!

I am lucky enough to be able to bring my daughter to the high school but many of her friends have to walk two miles to get there. The sidewalks may be "good enough" near the schools but are not even close to good enough on the walking routes to get to the school. Start fining those who don't shovel including businesses, apartment complexes and the city owned property. My family spent two days getting our driveway, cars and sidewalks cleaned for the kids safety and so should everyone else.

The city should clean the sidewalks that are noted for a bus stop! Our kids have to stand in the street!

We have children walking from Bishop St. to the high school. They are exposed to the freezing cold and the dangers of the traffic. We are NOT a Sidewalk friendly town, therefore, we must bus the students!
