E.P. to Inaugurate Elected Officials

The inauguration ceremony for the new East Providence City Council and School Committee is tonight at 7 in City Hall.

The Inauguration Ceremony for the new East Providence City Council and the new East Providence School Committee takes place tonight, Dec. 3, in City Hall.

The ceremony will start at 7 pm in the Council Chambers just inside the front doors on the first floor.

The Honorable Maureen McKenna Goldberg, a Rhode Island Supreme Court Justice, will swear in the newly-elected city officials, said City Clerk Kim Casci. A reception will follow the ceremony in the lobby of City Hall.

The new City Councilors include four newcomers: James Briden in Ward 1, Helder Cunha in Ward 2, Christine Rossi in Ward 4, and Tracy Ann Capobianco in the At-Large seat. Current Assistant Mayor Thomas Rose Jr. in Ward 3 is the only returning member of the council.

The new School Committee includes all newcomers to the board: Elizabeth Clupny in Ward 1, Anthony Ferreira in Ward 2, Richard Pimentel in Ward 3, Timothy Conley in Ward 4, and Joel Monteiro in the At-Large seat.

Honesty in politics is usually is in the eye of the beholder.
It is not easy for anyone to put their name on the line for public and media scrutiny day in and day out.
Good luck to all those elected to make decisions for us on public policy, and hopefully their decisons will be cooperative with the budget commission and the City Manager and not "knee-jerk" reactions based upon what the color of the moument happens to be at the time.
Most decisions made in haste usually have unintented consequences.

Congratualations to all! I arrived right when they announced Bridden would be the new mayor and I must say that was a relief. It feels good to see mostly new faces up there. On the School side, I looked around the room and I saw only one (mr. Furtado--who I had hoped would win) past School committee member at the ceremony. This was a disappointment and speaks volumes of their character. Be gracious and allow us, the ones who voted you in to begin with, the opportunity to thank you for your service, or at the very least, wish the new school committee & city council memebers well.
