East Providence Gets Over 436K in Affordable Housing Aid
Rhode Island public housing authorities will receive over $12 million through the Public Housing Capital Fund Program.
Rhode Island public housing authorities will receive over $12 million in federal funding through the Public Housing Capital Fund Program, according to a press release from Sen. Jack Reed's office. East Providence is allocated $436,912.
Local agencies may use the funding for a broad array of improvements, from replacing roofs and windows, to enhancing electrical and plumbing systems, to improving lighting and security.
“These are tough times, and this is a much needed investment in improving affordable housing in communities throughout Rhode Island. These federal funds could help put Rhode Island contractors, plumbers, and electricians to work making needed repairs that will upgrade neighborhoods across the state,” said Reed, who has been a champion of affordable rental housing, reads the release.
Federal affordable housing initiatives help millions of low-income, disabled, senior citizens, and families while stabilizing neighborhoods throughout America. These properties are administered by local housing agencies, which receive federal aid to manage the housing of low-income residents at rents they can afford. There are approximately 9,500 public housing units in Rhode Island.
The grants are administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Maybe the new city manager can use some of these funds and finally move into East Providence.

I think this is the same type of government funding that went to ProCap in Providence.
This agency was proven to be corrupt and a dropping off point for democrats hack friends and relatives.
Do these funds go the agency that Faria runs locally?
If yes, then again another example of govt passing out goodies while the rest of us in the private sector are hit with higher taxes.
What a country!

The funds are locally run through the Community Development office under the Planning Dept. The Planning folks continue to bring dollars into the city for small business and community development. Great job to the Planning Dept!
