UPDATED: Mayor Set Deadline to Shut Off Mutual Aid to Providence

Mayors from Johnston, North Providence and East Providence intended to stop mutual aid to Providence by Sunday, Aug. 26.

Editor's note: Fire Chief Joseph Klucznik said as of Monday, the city manager has not instructed him to shut off mutual aid service to Providence. It continues until further notice.

As of midnight, Aug. 26, the City of East Providence no longer intends to provides rescue service to Providence, according to a testimony from Mayor Bruce Rogers at a June press conference.

Mayor Bruce Rogers of East Providence and Mayors Joseph Polisena of Johnston and Charles Lombardi of North Providence had set the deadline at a press conference in June, after they said their requests for reimbursement from Providence went unanswered.

Providence Mayor Angel Taveras told WPRI-TV this week that officials in the city intend to "continue to respond to all emergencies in our city... [and] help other cities and towns," the station reported on its website.

Rogers, Polisena, and Lombardi had been seeking $500 each for rescue runs to Providence that are not covered by patients' health insurance — part of the overall cost of nearly $1,000 charged by the communities.

The fire chief had said that mutual aid would remain until he was otherwise directed by his boss, the city manager. Where i the city manager in this decision. Rogers either doesn't understand the city charter or chooses to ignore it. Are EP residents better off today than two years ago -I think not.

Of course EP is better off today than 2 years ago. The last crew of council members lied to us and left us millions in debt and layed off workers. Today we have a budget commission that has balanced the budget and retained all services. They forced the managers to be fiscally responsible.

Mr. Rogers,
Why don't you shutoff the water at the 3 properties your buddy Mr. Tommy Rose, Sr. owns? He was suppossed to pay the bills by August 10th, with the sale of a house on Baldwin Street and that has come and gone. He has owed the city this money for well over 1 1/2 years and he STILL owes over $6,000.00 and you and the city manager are letting it slide. You're looking for money from others cities when you're covering up thousands that are owed to this city by propety owners and buddies of yours. Why don't you start collecting what is rightfuly East Providences' before you look elsewhere.

It's all FACT Mr. Rogers!

Those properties are not the largest account in arrears with water bills. If you want one of the larger debtors for water bills check the records....it's the East Providence School Department. Request the public records...you'll see.

Ron C,
I realize they are not the largest in arrears but I'm sure there are favors being handed out here. There is a property in Rumford that a person/company owns that was around $16,000.00 in arrears. Have you seen that? Have you also looked at the property taxes that Rose Sr. owes?

My whole point is that are indeed favors being handed out, Rose, Jr. toots how wonderful his dad is to this city. He's wonderful alright, allowing us to cover those bills like we don't have our own bills to contend with, If all of this money was collected we may not be in the shape we are in - at least not as bad. These people are a scam in itself.

People, request the public records and you will see for yourself. You will also see that any and all of these properties have NEVER had the water shutoff OR went up for tax sale. City hall is squashing these bills and that is ILLEGAL!

B1 give the list to Abigail and she can post it. You talk about the "Rumford property" owner but you list the Rose Family. Looks like you may have an issue with Mr. Rose. Just saying..... List them all by name.

blablabla,

I would give the list to Abigail but I feel there may be many that are truly having a bad time with finances. I don't think it would be fair to them. As far as having a issue with Rose, yes, in a way I do and so should all residents of EP. This is a person who OWNS these properties. They are free and clear of mortgages. Most of us have mortgages on top of having to pay property tax and water bills. How nice would that be if we could just ignore the property tax bill and water bill. Whether Rose, Jr. has pull or not, this whole thing is WRONG - if you can't pay the bill, make arrangements with the city and if you DID make an arragement (which was done) than hold up your end of the bargin! The ball is the cities court right now and they need to make the next move which I'm sure won't be anything.

Maybe the problem with the Rose family is because of their status in the community and the fact that the city is covering up for all these bills owed on his rental properties.
Does Rose have pull in the city with Tommy Boy being on the council? You would think that he would ensure he was paid up and set and example, instead we get water bills in default.

"Mayah" Rogers phony baloney attempt to hold himself out as a REAL mayor apparently has fooled enough ignorant voters in his ward's primary. God help us if people don't wake up and see him for the police union tool that he is. Your taxes will rise, your services will be cut and police dept overtime will skyrocket. Is this what you want? This guy is a dangerously stupid egomaniac.
