Evelyn (Covill) Flaherty-Whittemore, 96

She was a very active member of Haven United Methodist Church in East Providence.

 

 

Evelyn (Covill) Flaherty-Whittemore, of East Providence, passed away on Saturday Dec.15, 2012 at Linn Health Center. She was 96.

She was the wife of the late Clyde S. Flaherty and Walter S. Whittemore. Born in Providence in 1916, she turned 96 on Dec. 6. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Zilla (Evison) Covill.

She is survived by her son, the Rev. Clyde S. Flaherty of Bristol; two sisters, Barbara McGrory and Gertrude Reynolds; two grandchildren, Sarah K. Flaherty and Lisa Lightsey, and two nieces, Kathy Monast and Janice Hibbert, who were her very close caregivers for many years. She is the sister of the late Warren, Charles, Herbert, Frank, George, William Covill, Dorothy Rainey, Alice Mowry, Ruth Conway.

She was a Supervisor of Food Service at Vocational Resource in Providence, and a very active member of Haven United Methodist Church in East Providence. She was a member of the Alpha Circle, a Sunday School teacher for 20 years, active in the Women’s Society, a Youth Director, a member of Naomi Order of Eastern Star, and Past-President of the Tristam Burgess School Parent Teacher Association.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday in Haven United Methodist Church, 200 Taunton Ave., East Providence from 10 to 11 am with a funeral service at 11 am.

Burial will follow in Spring Vale Cemetery in Rumford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Haven United Methodist Church.

Arrangements are being handled by the Smith-Mason Funeral Home.
