Fire Chief Seeks to Add Rescue Trucks to Aging Fleet
Each of the vehicles is anticipated to cost approximately $250,000.
The budget commission gave East Providence Fire Chief Joseph Klucznik good news when members approved requests for proposals (RFPs) to purchase three Advanced Life Support Rescue vehicles.
According to the chief, he would like to replace vehicles every four years to avoid relying on mutual aid from communities as far as Rehoboth and Warwick during emergency situations.
"These rescues are old and beat up," he said on Thursday afternoon. "They are the workhorses."
Most of the department's fleet is older than four years old, putting them into "reserve status."
The RFP allows the department to begin working on the truck's design plans with the Department of Transportation (DOT) and city personnel. In the past, these types of vehicles have cost $250,000 each.

Finally some progress on getting new vehicles. For the past month seekonk had to let EP borrow there reserve because 3 of the 5 rescues were junk. The next big thing is going to be getting new Engine Trucks, also within the past month seekonk and barrington had to let us borrow an Engine because again 4 East Providence were broken
