MMA Fighter Battles for E.P. Middle School Sports

Dan Cormier of Riverside fights tonight with part of his purse being donated to the East Providence Middle School Athletic Boosters Club.

 

Riverside MMA fighter Dan Cormier battles tonight, Jan. 5, at Mohegan Sun Casino knowing part of his purse will go toward middle school sports in East Providence.

Cormier, a mixed martial arts flyweight, is on the first card of 2013 at the casino. He is scheduled to face undefeated Kody Nordby in the North American Grappling Association’s Reality Fighting: A Night of MMA Fights New Years Bash.

Cormier carries a 4-3 record into the fight. He was a wrestler as a student in East Providence. Nordby is 4-0.

As a flyweight, Cormier stands 5-4 and weighs 125 pounds. He trains out of the Tri-Force MMA gym in Pawtucket, inside the well-known Manfredo's Gym.

Part of Cormier’s purse will go to the East Providence Middle School Athletic Boosters Club. It is working to raise money to bring back sports at the Riverside and Martin middle schools.

Tickets for the fight night, which includes two championship bouts, are $75, $55 and $30. They can be purchased through mohegansun.com, tickermaster.com at the Mohegan Sun box office on site in the Spring Gateway, or by calling call Ticketmaster at 1-800-745-3000.
