This city election should be non-partisan and issue oriented, not personal attacks and lame-brain logic.
Two main points should be fiances and solutions, and changing the City Charter to reflect the changing times.
Working with the Budget Commission, and keeping away from partisan politics will change the paradigm.

Although I would like to run, I work 2 jobs to support my family. I also have a few properties that add income to my family but also require time to repair. I pay thousands in taxes like may others in East Providence and am also just trying to have a quality of life for my family and I in East Providence. Perhaps some day I will run for office.

Ever really look at the election signs posted throughout the city? Almost all are Democrats. Now I ask you, who in their right mind would want to be part of or have their name associated with a city in such financial ruin, its nepotism, historical corruptness and mismanagement? Ever notice that new people may get elected but nothing ever really gets fixed? You see the 'candidates' who tell you they want to change things only want to change things for themselves and their associates. They just want to get elected to join the party. No, not the political party, the "EP voters are fools" party. The party that fills their pockets with your hard earned tax dollars that are supposed to go to running the city - not ruining the city. The party that gives jobs and positions to their family, friends, union brothers and insiders. The party that is special, discrete (means hidden and most likely illegal) accounts and funds that only the connected benefit from. Who are these connected? Why their family, friends, union brothers and insiders Has anything ever been fixed? Just keep pulling that master level or connecting the arrow under the D.

Nice observation. I believe I'm the only Independent running in E.P. The democrats have ruined both the city and the state...my opponents are fighting each other in a primary to be part of the EXACT group of crooks that made this mess....

Thank you Rags 1. As for the state, Democrat J. Joseph Gerrahy was well liked and avoided scandal and controversy. Ed Diprete was a Republican and served time in jail. And then we have Republican Don Carceiri that we can thank for initiating the Studio 38 debacle. It's the individual person not the party that is responsible. The choice rests entirely on the voter, those that cast a ballot and those who choose to "skip it".

I realize people are disgusted and discouraged with politics. I am too. Candidates need to be vetted. I'm also in favor of having all candidates subject to a criminal background check! This of course includes myself.

Congradulations to all that survived the public voting vetting process, which in the end, is the only one that really counts.
Now the real election begins now that the primaries are over.
I have great respect for all those that put their name in, gain criticism, get unwarranted insults just for being there, and still hang on until the electorate make their choice. It isn't the best process, but the best process that we know about.

Is the RUMOR TRUE that there is a candidate lined up to run against Chrissy Rossi and if so, how can I get a sign?

Chrissy Rossi may not be the best spoken but that lady has a lot of passion. She's very active in the community and really does want the best for the kids. She's a real person, who owns a business, has lived in EP for Years. I'm voting for the life-long EP resident who knows what it was like, is like and has kids in the system too (the one thing I dont think Chrissy had) If it affects their kids, they are likely to fix it! I had the pleasure of meeting Anthoy Ferreira on election day, he is running in Ward 2 (which is not my ward but I liked him) and I also met Joel Monteiro volunteering at the project 106 breakfast (& he always volunteers everywhere, that's what we need!). My brother went to school with him and he is still the same nice guy he was back in the 80's! He's running at Large, so he has my vote. Also met BJ Decrezenzo (sp) and she seems pretty no nonsense, and Tracy Capobianco, my neice goes to her daycare, also a very nice lady with alot of heart. Pay attention to your candidates. We're down to lint in our pockets. We need fighters on these committees who will take back our town!

I respect your opinion of Chrissy but I need someone who isn't burning bridges by shooting off at the mouth. I knew Joel and Tracey in school as well and you're right about him, he is truly the nicest guy I've ever met. He'd take the shirt off his back for anyone. He and his wife had a foster kid who is friendly with my son. Today he's an adult and still can't say enough about that family. He's exactly what we need in our town. Lets hope he gets in.

Marti Monteiro is his wife. She blogs for the Patch. Just by reading her blogs you can tell alot about their values and family unit. I agree he is who we need, and people like him. I didn't know he had a foster child. My heart just melted. I was in the system my entire life. I'm literally choked up right now. I have always had warm feelings reading about them in her blog, but she never revealed that about them, which tells me they do things from the heart. Thank you for sharing that Ms. Barcelos.

Hi Tonya :) I never blogged that about us because I wanted to respect the kids' privacy. We still talk to all four kids regularly (they are actually all adults now) only one lived with us and he will be 18 and moving on to college next fall. We will be there for them for as long as we have breath in our bodies. We love them, and are very proud of them.
