Taunton Avenue Parking on Docket
The East Providence City Council will introduce an ordinance to expand parking on a stretch of Taunton Avenue from 2 to 6 hours.
Parking on a stretch of Taunton Avenue in East Providene will be stretched from 2 to 6 hours under an amendment to an ordinance to be introduced at the East Providence City Council meeting tonight, Feb. 5.
The meeting starts at 7:30 pm in the Council Chamber in City Hall. It follows an executive session at 7 pm.
The amended ordinance would increase the hours a vehicle could be parked on both sides of Taunton Avenue from Walnut Street to Russell Avenue between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., except Sundays and holidays.
The amendment is a response to concerns from certain business owners who have been forced to move their vehicles every two hours to avoid a traffic citation. The 2-hour limit was set to prevent drivers -- primarily commuters to Providence -- from parking on the street most of the day while taking a bus into the city.
The City Council also will consider a resolution of the Burrillville Town Council that supports two bills in the General Assembly that would delete the option of straight-party voting in non-primary elections.
