Thursday: Monkey Around at the Library; Seniors Going on the Road in 2012

Here are five things you should know today in East Providence.

  1. It will be sunny today, but cold, with a high temperature of 34 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. There's a very slight chance of snow tonight, too.
  2. City offices are open as usual today, but City Hall will close at 11:30 am Friday, and will reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012.
  3. If Monday is normally your trash pickup day, please have your trash out early on Saturday, Dec. 31, instead.
  4. The city's libraries have a lot going on today:  Curious George visits Weaver Library; there's cookie making and Wii games at Weaver in the afternoon; a Readathon at Rumford Library and Teen Movie Night.  The libraries will close at noon tomorrow, Dec. 30, and will reopen on Tuesday per regular branch schedules.
  5. The East Providence Senior Center has some great trips coming up in the early part of 2012:  The group is going to Atlantic City Feb. 20-22, and to Savannah, Georgia, in April, for a six day trip that includes a meal at Paula Deen's restaurant. For more information, visit the Senior Center administration office or call 435-7800, Ext. 7, or call Eleanor Monteiro at 434-8194.

I believe this is correct. I also believe this is the kind of plan that we are likley to end up with, though somewhat less generous as it will be forced on us by our creditors who won't give a hair about healthcare for seniors and the needy. Read "Penny Medical" articles if you dont have insurance.
