Tuesday: Princess Party; Racing at the Recreation Center

Here are five things you should know today in East Providence.

  1. Today will be sunny with a high of 44 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
  2. The East Providence Conservation Commission meets tonight at 7:30 pm in City Hall.
  3. Today is sometimes known as "Shrove Tuesday", the day before Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent. In many English-speaking countries, this day is known for the eating of pancakes, because pancakes were made of the main foods available - sugar, fat, flour and eggs - which were restricted during the Lenten fast. The day is also celebrated as Mardi Gras, fat Tuesday, the day to feast before the fast.
  4. Vacation Week programs at the libraries include a Princess Party at Weaver at 10 am and a Year of the Dragon program at Rumford.
  5. The Recreation Department begins Game Week 2012 today, with activities for kids every day during vacation.  Today it's Ready to Race!
