Vaccinations Clinic at Middle School
East Providence, RI health department and Wellness Company are offering vaccinations for the flu, whooping cough and pneumonia on Monday, Dec. 3, in Riverside.
East Providence is hosting a vaccination clinic on Monday, Dec. 3, for the flu, whooping cough, and pneumonia.
The clinic will be held at the Riverside Middle School at 179 Forbes St. It runs from 4 to 7 pm.
The city is teaming up with the Rhode Island Department of Health and the Wellness Company to offer the vaccinations, said Wayne Barnes, deputy Emergency Management Agency director.
The regular seasonal flu vaccine will be offered for those ages 6 months and older who have not received it yet this season.
The Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) vaccine is for anyone 11 years of age and older.
“Anyone who is in close contact with an infant should get a Tdap shot if they haven’t been immunized in the past five years,” said Barnes, “and all adults are encouraged to receive Tdap once in their lifetime.”
Pregnant women must be at least 20 weeks into their pregnancies to receive the Tdap vaccine, he said.
The pneumococcal vaccine, which protects against pneumonia, will also be offered for adults ages 19 and older. This is particularly recommended for smokers and for those who have athsma.
There is no charge for any vaccination. Anyone who is insured should bring his or her insurance card.
No one will be turned away for a lack of health insurance, though, Barnes said.
“You do not have to be an East Providence resident to come to the clinic,” he said.
