Wanted Couple Nabbed After Walking Out With Groceries

East Providence police spotted the couple walking away from the Stop & Shop supermarket on Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 5, allegedly with a shopping cart full of pilfered food.

An East Providence couple who are well known to the police because of warrants issued for their arrest face some new charges after they allegedly walked out of the Stop & Shop supermarket on Pawtucket Avenue with $162 worth of groceries.

Siobhan V. Callery, 47, of 550 Taunton Ave., and Ronald C. Jones, 44, of 550 Taunton Ave., were spotted with a cart full of food, including a turkey worth about $47, on Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 5.

A patrol officer who was aware that there was an active warrant out for their arrest stopped them with the groceries about 2:37 pm. Allegedly, police said they paid for the food -- with $8 in cash -- before leaving the store.

The couple faces new charges of shoplifting and conspiracy. They also have been permanently banned from the store and will be charged with trespassing if they ever return to it, according to the police report.
