The thing that bugs me the most is that people think that politicians are protecting their citizenry - well they are not. They are only protecting their own agendas and special interest groups that backed them. I also must remind you that their party affiliations are of more interest to them and not the voters who elected them.
If you have any questions of this theory, just take a look at what is happing in our City of East Providence. The politicians are coming out of the wood work to support Sports. Why? Because they know November is coming and they need votes. It is not for the kids, it is for themselves. Where were their letters before the out cry of parents and students? Where was the city council when they voted 5 to 0 to accept the B&E Report that recommended cutting sports. Now all of a sudden they are in favor of not cutting sports, why? Watch out for the baby-kissers.
Do you question why people are moving out of this state or city? It is easy, unemployment is over 11 percent, car taxes and property taxes are the increase, long standing school deficits, uncontrollable gas prices and the beat goes on.
Also our elected officials have contributed to our shortfalls. Instead of taking the bull by the horns, they failed to manage the financial problems of the state or our city. So why stay in a state or city when your hard earned income can produce more in another state?
Folk don’t look at what these office holders or politicians are saying today, but look back on whom, what, and how they voted on important issue in the past. Did they back important decision to save our state or city or did they just protect their special interest groups?
November is coming. Some persons pursuing or occupying an elective office will just tell us what we want to hear to get elected or reelected. Not all!

If anyone wants to see first hand the incompetence and disengagement of our city council representation in Ward 1, take a look at the Feb 28 City Council meeting:
http://eastprovidenceri.iqm2.com/citizens/VideoMain.aspx?MeetingID=1708
Fast forward to the 3:01:25 point and listen to Councilwoman Kleyla giving her recap of the neighborhood meeting to discuss the North Broadway bridge closure.
Below is a transcript of her opening remarks:
"I just wanted to saw a few words about the neighborhood meeting that we had....I guess...uh..not last week....the week before?.....a couple of weeks ago?....I can't remember. Anyway it was quite a success"
The meeting was on February 15th. In fairness, she was probably distracted by whatever she was watching on her laptop at the time.
We really can do better.

I saw that, when the meeting was televised. Such a sad state of affairs within our city when we have representation (actually lack of true representation) by an individual that really doesn't belong in the position. We can only hope the voters are not hoodwinked again in November.

And the fabulous Kleyla is running for something bigger and better in November? My hopes is she would just run, run right the hell out of this city and take Coogan and the rest odf the croonies with her.

Hoodwinked
Bruce the circus has already begun. Take a look at the posts about middle school sports. If the sleight of hand isn’t at work here I’ll stand down. The only thing we can do is keep shining the light on them.

If the current city council had a clue to what was going on the State of Rhode Island would not be here. Thank your lucky stars that Bruce, Tommy and OMG Ward 1 Katie are here. Their astute wisdom and leadership paved way for Mr. O'Keefe.

sarcasm, humor. State is here because EP city government is a dysfunctional group.
I think the Budget Commission gives the city the best chance at survival.
The State took over because .......lack of wisdom and leadership.
Thought it was obvious.

There are a lot of angry people in this city these days. I hope its enough to keep peoples head in the game come voting time. I may catch a huge ration of crap for saying it, but I don't care. People need to be more responsible with their vote, myself included. I made a huge mistake in casting my ballot last time, something I will NEVER do again. This past administration has been a joke. So much so that you don't even hear the ring leader talking anymore, or maybe he is just busy looking for advertising....

Kevin I applaud you for your honesty and humility.
If more people would own up when they make dubious decisions it would be a lot easier to get situations resolved and changed. Unfortunately there is always a real chance the sheep will be led to slaughter (finical) at election time. We just have to double down and fight to get the reality out there.
Partisan politics is not the answer this time anyway, real solutions is the only answer, after all we all are in the same boat. Vote for the person, not the party.

The meeting was quite a success? I'm told that Roger Williams Ave (the most policed street in the state) has had its speed limit reduced to a ridiculous 20 mph!! If this is true it will cause a slew of new traffic tickets to be written. Wilson Ave is getting more stop signs too im told....Perhaps the new fines will help us hire even more police to fine us further until we all have enough sense to move the hell out of this police state.

Is there a good cantidate out there, one the union of powerful institutions dosen't own??

Well Robert
We have always known that they have always been full of the other end of the bull
