Realtors to Rally for Home Ownership at Nation's Capital

In 47 days, I'll be heading to Washington, D.C. for the Rally to Protect The American Dream. In a nutshell, it's a call to arms for Realtors across the country to come to Washington to defend the American Dream from the doubters who say home ownership and real estate have run their course.

"This is our opportunity to ensure housing remains the fiber that binds together the fabric of America," says Moe Veissi President of the National Assocation of Realtors.

As a member of the Greater Providence Board of Realtors, it is important to me to attend this rally to help ensure that a sustainable, durable housing economy is around for future generations. Congress, over the next 18 months or so, will begin to reshape the dream of owning a home. We hope to show Congress that no one cares more about revitalizing real estate for future generations than Realtors do.

I am looking forward to the energy of thousands of Realtors pouring into D.C. I anticipate that we will be heard loud and clear.

I think its a good idea. I also think we need to bring awareness to issues affecting housing in RI and East Providence. For example, the elimination ofthe homestead exemption and earlly pay discount on top of an 11% increase in water/sewer rates will have a substantial impact on housing in EP whre values are back at 2001 levels already. All this after the subrosia reval and car tax increases cries out for action!
