Get Overview of 'Obamacare'; Budget Board, Rumford Book Club Meet

Here are six things you may want to know about today in and around East Providence.

Here are some things you should know about in and around East Providence today, Sept. 12:

  • Summer weather continues with partly cloudy skies and temperatures getting into the low 80s.
  • Speakers from the RI Health Insurance Office, the Department of Health, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, and the East Bay Community Action Program in Riverside will provide an overview of "Obamacare" at Roger Williams University in Bristol at 7 pm. Information tables also will be set up to help you find out how to participate in the health insurance exchange. The event takes place in Room 157 in the College of Arts and Sciences building. 
  • The East Providence Budget Commission meets at 3 pm in Room 306 in City Hall, 145 Taunton Ave.
  • The Rumford Book Club meets at Weaver Library, 41 Grove Ave., from 10:30 am to noon; the September selection is My Beloved World by Sonia Sotomayor. Copies of the book are available at Weaver Library. New members are always welcome.
  • Share all your news and information about academics, sports, the arts, anything you want on the blogs created for East Providence High School and Bay View Academy. 
  • The East Providence High School girls’ soccer team travels to Scituate High for a match at 3:45 pm.
