Interim City Manager Starts Monday, Ham & Beans Sunday

City Council - The EP City Council moved its interviews with interim City Manager candidates up to Thursday, ultimately hiring former City Manager Paul Lemont for the temporary position. He starts on Monday. 

Ham & Beans Sunday The Rumford Lions Club has a Ham & Bean Supper on Sunday Nov. 17. A portion of the ticket sales will be donated to the Wounded Warriors Project and also help provide groceries, turkeys and hams to local families at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Food will be served between 5 and 8 p.m. at the Santa Maria Club, 846 Broadway in East Providence. The meal will consist of baked ham, beans, coleslaw, rolls, butter, coffee, and tea. Dessert will be a Make Your Own Sundae Dessert Bar, a cash bar is also available. Lions Lenny Rounds, John Barone, and Peter Barilla, who have all been rated “Top Chefs” by fellow Lions, will be preparing the meal using family favorite recipes. A raffle will be held during the dinner, you do not need to be present to win.

Everyone is invited to attend. Tickets are $11 for ages 12 & up, $5 for children ages 6 through 11, ages 5 & under eat free. Tickets can be purchased from any Rumford Lion, or at the door. Questions can be sent to rumfordlions@cox.net or call us at 401-632-0859. 

Trash pickup delay - Household rubbish and yard waste collection this week will be delayed one day for the reminder of the week.  Regular Monday collections will be Tuesday, Nov. 12, Tuesday will be Wednesday, Wednesday will be Thursday, Thursday will be Friday and Friday will be collected on Saturday.  This new holiday policy went into effect on Sept. 1.

Food Drive underway - Oxford Tavern is running a food drive through November to benefit East Bay Community Action's food pantry program. People interested in making a donation can drop food off at the tavern, 446 Waterman Ave., Tuesday through Saturday from 4:30 to 11 p.m.


RI Food Bank collecting Rhode Island Community Food Bank received 1,000 turkeys this week from Stop & Shop, which is delivering turkeys to food banks across the region they serve. You can help them meet their goal of collecting 350,000 pounds of food by dropping off food any weekday (except holidays) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 200 Niantic Avenue, Providence.
