American Lung Association Fight for Air Climb Moves to Omni Hotel Providence

Registration is just $25 until September 19.

On February 22, hundreds will take to the stairs of the Omni Providence Hotel, located in the heart of downtown Providence. The sixth annual Fight for Air Climb: Providence will take place at the renowned hotel for the first time in 2014 due to the event’s growing success. Last year, more than 800 raced to the top of One Financial Plaza raising more than $192,000 to directly benefit the American Lung Association of the Northeast.

“We hosted the first ever Fight for Air Climb: Providence back in 2009 and are overwhelmed by the support we have received over the years not just in Providence, but all over the state,” said Jeff Seyler, President & CEO of the American Lung Association of the Northeast. “We are so grateful to the Omni Hotel for graciously opening their doors to us and for taking an active role in the Fight for Air. The funds raised at the Fight for Air Climb are vital to the work we are doing to combat lung disease and air pollution.”

Teams of firefighters are encouraged to participate in the Firefighter Challenge. Firefighters will race to the top of Omni Hotel wearing full gear. The fastest team will walk away with the Fastest Firefighting Team trophy, awarded to the department from Fall River, Massachusetts for the past four years.

“The Omni Hotel is proud to be a part of the Fight for Air Climb in Providence,” said Josh Heidenreich, General Manager of Omni Hotel Providence. “Events like this are an important part of the Providence community and Omni Hotels has always believed in charity and giving back to your community. The American Lung Association is a great organization committed to bettering lung health and we are pleased to be able to partner with them.”

Registration for the 2014 Fight for Air Climb: Providence is now open at Climbofyourlife.org. Participants can either climb as teams or as individuals. Teams must have at least five members to qualify for team awards. Each climber is responsible for a registration fee and a $100 fundraising minimum. The current registration fee is $25; it increases to $35 on September 20.

An afterparty and awards ceremony will take place immediately following the climb at Rí Rá Irish Pub Providence, 50 Exchange Terrace, just a short walk from the Omni Hotel. Individual and team awards will be given, as well as individual and team awards for firefighters.

Sponsors for the 2014 Fight for Air Climb: Providence include Omni Providence Hotel, WJAR NBC10, Amica Insurance, Poland Spring, and Rí Rá Irish Pub Providence. Kindred Healthcare serves as National Corporate Team sponsor. Sponsorship opportunities are available at various levels; please contact event manager Elise Kerrigan at (401) 533-5174 or ProvClimb@LungNE.org.
