CEO of American Nurses Association to Visit Rhode Island Nurses Institute Middle College Charter High School

October 17th [Providence] – On October 21st American Nurses Association CEO, Marla Weston, PhD, RN, FAAN will visit the Rhode Island Nurses Institute Middle College Charter High School as a part of her visit to the state for the Rhode Island State Nurses Association’s annual business meeting.  Dr. Weston will visit the school, the first and only Middle College in the U.S. focused on educating high school students for careers in nursing.

The charter school has gained recognition since opening in 2011, offering college-level curriculum to its lottery-selected student body who have flourished in the alternative school setting.  When asked about the school, Dr. Weston said, “With its innovative approach to educating the next generation of nurses, the school is forging a new pathway and developing our nation’s future health care leaders.  I look forward to spending time with the students and the faculty.”

The tour of the school will begin at 2:30 p.m. and last until 3:45 p.m. 

The Rhode Island State Nurses Association (RISNA), a constituent member of the American Nurses Association (ANA), is dedicated to the promotion, advancement, and protection of nursing thereby improving the quality of an access to health care in Rhode Island. The Rhode Island Nurses Institute Middle College Charter High School (RINI-MC) has a mission to immerse each student in a redefined high school experience with the innovative structure of college learning, during each school day and throughout the entire school year. RINI-MC’s dynamic four-year program of study effectively bridges the gap between high school and college for students in grades 10, 11, 12, and 12+, with a specialized focus on nursing and healthcare. The rigorous, college-like education curriculum features high-level mathematics and science instruction for students, culminating in nursing credentials and a high school degree.
