NEWPORT, RI- Join Social Enterprise Greenhouse (formerly SVPRI) and the growing social enterprise community on Monday, September 9th, for a film screening of Fixing the Future. Pre-event networking begins at 6 pm, the film screening at 6:45 and will be followed by a facilitated conversation about the film.
Fixing the Future, hosted by David Brancaccio of public radio's Marketplace and NOW on PBS, examines people and organizations across America that are attempting a revolution: the reinvention of the American economy. This documentary features communities using sustainable and innovative approaches to create jobs and build prosperity. Fixing the Future inspires individuals to pursue creative business initiatives. The film focuses on the wide range of skill-sets that these entrepreneurs can offer. Each innovator can accomplish a variety of goals and tasks without worrying about the financials caused by this tumultuous economy. The communities develop communal practices such as local business alliances, community banking, time banking/hour exchange, worker cooperatives, and local currencies.
The post event conversation will feature renowned social innovators: Lisa Conlan Lewis, New Hope Time Exchange; Stacey Cordeiro, Boston Center for Community Ownership; Martin Keen, Keen Shoes and FOCAL; Mark Marosits, Worldways Social Marketing; and Maureen Cronin, Worldways Social Marketing.
