NAME CHANGE FOR LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP ORGANIZATION

For 45 years, Citizens' Scholarship Foundation of East Providence has provided financial assistance to East Providence students. It was charted in 1968 as a local Dollars for Scholars Chapter of Citizens' Scholarship Foundation of America, now known as Scholarship America. An all-volunteer organization, the board recently voted to disaffiliate with the national organization and establish independent status.

Changes in the administration of local chapters was instrumental in the decision to break with Scholarship America. " We feel this is best for our community," stated Peter Barilla, president of Scholarship Foundation of East Providence.

With four decades of experience, the group is confident there will be a seamless transition. Officers for the 2014 administration remain the same. In addition to Mr. Barilla, they include Joan Kent, vice president; Kathleen King, recording secretary; Patricia Hawksley, corresponding secretary; and Toni-Maria Spencer, treasurer.

The address remains the same - P.O. Box 154438, East Providence, RI  02915. Scholarship donors and contributors to the recent phone-a-thon can make their check payable to Scholarship Foundation of East Providence and send them to that address.
