5 Things to Know About Weekend

Sizzling, steamy weather abates; Heritage Fest at Pierce Field; sunset kayak tour; farmers market; MDA fundraiser.

Here are five things you should know about this weekend in and around East Providence:

  1. Sizzling and steamy weather with highs in the low 90s today and Saturday with a potential for severe thunderstorms tomorrow should ease up on Sunday with temperatures in the low 80s. 
  2. The 33rd annual Heritage Fest runs the whole weekend at the Pierce Field recreation complex, Mercer and Fifth streets, with “TributeMania” shows each night at the football field and food and arts and crafts vendors, amusement rides and other musical shows on the baseball field each day.
  3. East Bay Paddle hosts a Sunset Kayak Tour of Hundred Acre Cove in Barrington from 6:30 to 8:30 pm on Friday; paddlers will be met at the water's edge by a guide with complete rental packages, bottled water, basic instruction. Reservations to info@eastbaypaddle.com.
  4. The Go Local Farmers Market continues on Saturday from 9 am to noon at Barrington Congregational Church on County Road. 
  5. The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) host an all-you-can-eat fundraiser, “Tommy’s Crusade,” at the China Buffet, 181 Willett Ave., Riverside, on Sunday at 5 pm; to make reservations, contact Sandra Piscione at 401-732-1910.
