Five Things For Tuesday: Bookies, Carousel Commission Meeting & More

East Providence Weather:

  • Tuesday: Rain and snow likely before 2pm, then a chance of rain between 2pm and 5pm, then a chance of rain and snow after 5pm. Cloudy, with a high near 40. Light northeast wind. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
  • Tuesday Night: A chance of snow, mainly after 9pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29. North wind 5 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Bookies: Grades 1-5. Read and act out great stories, tell jokes, make crafts, eat snacks, play games, and more! Books are read during the program. 2nd & 4th Tuesday of the month. Takes place at the Weaver Library Program Room from 3:45pm-4:45pm.

Carousel Commission Meeting: Monthly meeting of the Crescent Park Carousel Commission starting at 6pm at the Crescent Park Carousel.  The commission mets on the 4th Tuesday of each month with the exception of December.  Meetings are open to the public.

This Day in History: On this day in 1954, after 44 months in prison, former government official Alger Hiss is released and proclaims once again that he is innocent of the charges that led to his incarceration. One of the most famous figures of the Cold War period, Hiss was convicted in 1950 of perjury for lying to a federal grand jury. Specifically, Hiss was judged to have lied about his complicity in passing secret government documents to Whittaker Chambers, who thereupon passed the papers along to agents of the Soviet Union
