Heavy Rain, Winds Expected Tuesday Into Wednesday

A strong system will bring rain and heavy winds to the area, starting Tuesday night.

The National Weather Service out of Taunton is projecting a strong storm system to be moving through the area Tuesday night and into Wednesday afternoon.

The NWS has issued a flood watch for the impending storm as one to three inches of rain are expected, with some areas possibly seeing as much as four inches. Larger rivers will most likely not overflow due to the recent dry weather, but weather officials warn that small streams and creeks may crest. Expect widespread urban blooding and poor drainage flooding. The rain should taper off by Wednesday afternoon, when many will be traveling for the holiday.

The NWS has issued a high wind warning for the region, taking effect from 4 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday as gusts are predicted to hit nearly 60 mph. The winds may lead to localized damage, including downed trees and power lines.

Though the rain will mostly likely end by Wednesday afternoon, the forceful winds will remain through the afternoon and pair with a cold front moving in behind the storm.

Thursday's forecast calls for sunny skies with breezy conditions and highs in the mid 30s.
