What Would You Improve in Middletown?

We love our town, but how could we improve?

Entering into a new year is a time when individuals evaluate their goals and lifestyles, but what about Middletown as a community?

If you were up to you, what what would you improve in Middletown?

When asked that question on Middletown Patch Facebook , readers contributed a myriad of idea from shopping and the beaches to public works and traffic.

“We need bowling or mini golf or something to do,” wrote Lindsey Soko.

Mike Barbas said Middletown used to have mini-golf and two bowling alleys, but they were not popular.

Johnny Lambert suggested we focus on the schools.  “MHS needs a facelift. These schools in the Midwest are top shelf. So are the athletic fields.”

A few people said Target should open in Middletown and Alaina Ilko Ferris suggested we replace  Stop & Shop with a Wegmans.

What about you? If it were up to you, what would you improve in Middletown?

Middletown doesn't have any Gentlemen Clubs, otherwise known as strip clubs or nudie bars. I think one of these clubs would improve the town greatly. Plus it would create jobs.

Jack Baillargeron blabbered: "(they did not want private business invovled in Public Education and the Union objected also it was a non Union Company)." As usual, we have Rhode Island's #1 union hater throwing the unions under the bus once again. Thanks Jack, but we already know you hate unions-please tell us something we DON"T know about you.

- Of course, the holy grail improvement would be reducing education costs while increasing student performance. There are lots of ways to go about that, but far too many State and Federal laws would have to change to even begin that process. - I think the Town needs to actively work with the State and local businesses to reduce the number of curb cuts on our main roads. We need to eliminate the idea that every right and left turn should have a dedicated cut. I think a majority of our traffic problems would be significantly reduced if we merged as many as possible. - I would like to see more and better sidewalks. There is no reason we couldn't include asphalt sidewalks with every road resurfacing/repaving for very little additional cost. - I would like to see additional emphasis on landscaping our streets with a minimum standard. Parking lots and sidewalks would be a lot more attractive if they had more substantial landscaping. - I would like to see a planning/zoning board which entirely eliminates allowances for major hotels in residential neighborhoods which exceed every direction of setback and height restriction. - I would like to see the Town stop purchasing new pieces of open space while letting the space we have languish. It would be a nice idea to encourage green space stewards to help with this. - Lastly, I would like to see some real and substantive ideas for how our Town/School plan to reduce our taxes. And I do mean reduce, not limit to < 3%.
