E.P. Screen Writer Up For Oscar

Jennifer Lee, who grew up in East Providence, has been nominated for screen-writing award for 'Wreck It Ralph'.

A Hollywood screen writer with roots in East Providence is among the nominees for an Oscar to be awarded tonight, Feb. 24, during the Academy Award ceremony.

Jennifer Lee, who grew up in East Providence, has been nominated for the best screen writing award for “Wreck It Ralph.”

The Disney Animation's blockbuster movie is up for the best animated feature film by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The video game adventure opened to a record $49.1 million in sales.

According to the official Oscars website: "Ralph is a character in a video arcade game, a destructive, oversized demolitions expert who dreams of transforming himself from a villain into a hero.  Leaving his own game behind, Ralph sets off on an odyssey through a series of games where his programmed propensity for violence works against his efforts to change."
