Back-to-School Information You Want to Know

Schools in East Providence will open their doors for the 2013-2014 year in about two weeks. Here is some information you’ll want to keep handy.

All students except sophomores through seniors at the high school should report on Thursday, Sept. 5, at 7:25 am for a regular full school day, said Superintendent Kim Mercer. 

Students in grades 10 through 12 should report a day later on Friday, Sept. 6 at the same time.

Teachers will start their years on Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 3-4, for two days of professional development. Principals will contact them directly about specific times and locations for these sessions.

The East Providence school website www.epschoolsri.com includes information about addresses, phone numbers and school hours. Note the new school breakfast and lunch prices:

• Elementary lunch paid - $2.45
• Elementary breakfast - $1.30
• Secondary lunch paid - $2.70
• Secondary breakfast - $1.45

Applications for school lunches will be sent home the first week of school. Students will retain their current status – free, reduced, paid – until new application forms are processed.

All students entering E.P. schools for the first time must register at the Central Registration Office in East Providence City Hall, 145 Taunton Ave.

Children must be 5 years old by Sept. 1 to enter kindergarten. Children entering first grade must be 6 years old by the same date.

Bus schedules are posted on the school website www.epschoolsri.com and published in local media outlets.

The administration offices for the schools are now located on the third floor in City Hall. Call 435-7500 with questions.
