BAY VIEW ACADEMY STUDENTS WIN SCHOLASTIC WRITING AWARDS

East Providence, RI – Two Bay View Academy Upper School students earned Silver Keys in the Scholastic Writing Awards recently. Michelle Taraian, a senior from Warwick, RI, won a Silver Key in Senior Portfolio for her collection entitled “Alternate Worlds.” Emily Gleason, a junior from Tiverton, RI, won a Silver Key in the Memoir category for “The Crest.” In addition, four Bay View juniors earned honorable mentions. They are:


Tracy Bettencourt, East Providence, RI, won an Honorable Mention in the Memoir category.

Brittany Lizotte, Johnston, RI, won an Honorable Mention award for her collection of 5 poems.

Sydnie Merlino, East Providence, RI, won an Honorable Mention in the Memoir category.

Grace Sneesby, Providence, RI, won an Honorable Mention in the Memoir category.

According to www.artandwriting.org, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, which is presented by the nonprofit Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, “teens in grades 7 through 12 can apply in 28 categories of art and writing for the chance to earn scholarships and have their works exhibited or published. Submissions are juried by luminaries in the visual and literary arts, some of whom are past award recipients. Panelists look for works that best exemplify originality, technical skill and the emergence of a personal voice or vision. In the last five years alone, students submitted nearly 900,000 original works of art and writing.”


St. Mary Academy-Bay View is an independent Catholic School for girls open to all faiths, Pre-kindergarten through Grade 12, located in East Providence, Rhode Island.
