Navigant Donates Rescue Boat to East Providence Fire Department

The East Providence Fire Department's got a new 14-foot inflatable rescue boat, thanks to a donation from Navigant Credit Union.

The $2,650 boat, quartered at the Rumford fire station, will be used primarily on closed bodies of water, such as Omega Pond, Willet Avenue Pond and the Turner Reservoir, said EPFD Chief Oscar Elmasian.

Their old boat, Elmasian said, has been out of service for about a year and a half.

Navigant Credit Union, based in RI, the state's oldest credit union, has 13 branches, including in Riverside at 3 Crescent View Ave., where Mayor Jim Briden and Elmasian visited Friday afternoon to present bank officers with a citation thanking them for the donation. "Navigant Credit Union has been very generous, very generous to donate this boat," Elmasian said.
