VIDEO: Townie Times Coming to Town

Brian Coogan owns the paper, according to the newspaper's Facebook site.

The Townie Times, a newspaper dedicated to covering East Providence news, will be hitting stands in a little over a month.

According to owner Brian Coogan, the free newspaper will make its debut late March or early April. It will be published every two weeks but the online site will post breaking news. About 24,000 copies of the first issue will be mailed to East Providence households, according to Coogan.

"We're going to be doing something different," he said in a telephone interview, noting he wants to highlight the positive achievements of the East Providence community.

He hired about 12 employees including reporters, sales representatives and graphic designers. The office is located at 152 Warren Ave.

According to a YouTube video, they will be covering news, arts, school sports, weddings and births.

Hi Truth Seeker - I posted a story about the Townie Times because it's new to East Providence.

Hi Veteran - we can't allow comments that allege crimes.

Hey everyone. As I've said before, keep it civil.

JGoff ? Keith who? I dont even know a Keith, unless you mean Foley and well wouldnt that just be funny.... I am from Rehoboth and until Boss Hog started running things over there I was proud.

I'm so surprised anyone would consider opening a paper when some of the largest news agencies in the country have closed their doors. I must say - I am so surprised by the immaturity and lack of respect of some of the responders here. Grow up - and stay on subject or don't bother commenting at all.

Kevin, when you hit a nerve with a union hack, you get personal attacks. That's their nature, they only know that style. Just stand by, the best has yet to come, when the receiver comes to town, lol

Abigail, why are my comments deleted? They were in no way uncivil. More importantly, how can you justify deleting my comments but keeping Lisa and Kevins original comment up???
Abigail Crocker (Editor) March 01, 2012 at 05:28 PM
Hi everyone - when users repeatedly flag a comment, the comment is automatically deleted. That being said, I monitor flagged comments to make sure they are indeed offensive in nature. I will also delete comments, even if not flagged, when the subject matter is offensive. Got questions? See the Terms of Use policy.

What happened to the Townie Times? I have not received one of the 24,000 copies that was supposed to go out months ago. Also what happened to the 12 employees that Boss Hog hired? Did Boss Hogg turn out to be Boss Busted?

http://townietimesri.com/ Townie Times is apparently semi-running.

That has been like that for over a month. Word is the Coogan did not pay and building is for rent again. No one wanted to advertise with him, just Hortons aka him. Sad we won't get to read the proparganda.
Kevin Oliver April 24, 2012 at 11:55 AM
Vinny while it would not suprise me, I have seen nothing that says Coogans paper is already a flop.... Does anyone know for sure?
Viewer May 03, 2012 at 03:11 PM
Coogan in Providence at Attorney Generals Office trying to get out of more trouble.....is that going to be in the Townie Times?
Kevin May 03, 2012 at 11:55 PM
Coogan probably framing someone to get himself off again. Likes to where wires and get others arrested. Grandjury. Dude cant get record expunged again.
M B May 04, 2012 at 12:35 AM
Maybe it is Coogans ethic charges that were against him. Now that he got the guy from the Post fired there has been no follow up. What happened to that?
mike May 07, 2012 at 04:11 PM
I read the paper on line it doesn't seem to be that negitive. It actually had some intresting information.
Vinny May 08, 2012 at 01:49 PM
It has like 4 articles and one was writen by the kids Mommy! The classified are Coogan's own junk. I must have missed the news, not that it matters because it is 2 months old anyway. His 12 employees (LOL) must be slow journalist, he needs to hire more if they work at that pace.

Looks like Townie Times is done just like coogan. Domain is expired. That was quick!
Tim June 12, 2012 at 01:23 PM
That is what happens when you don't pay the rent. Word is he went back to school to learn how to read.
