DARTMOUTH, MA, ISSUED MARCH 10, 2014…Stat Ambulance Service, the 911 provider for the Town of Dartmouth, MA and sister company to Southcoast EMS, today announced the addition of a new Field Supervisor position for the Town of Dartmouth, providing the resources of an additional Paramedic and vehicle to be on duty for that community, above and beyond what it provides by way of its existing agreement with the town.

“Medic 9,” is the name of the 4-wheel drive Sport Utility Vehicle, which will be dedicated to the Town of Dartmouth, staffed, 24/7 with an experienced paramedic supervisor.  The additional Paramedic comes to the town at no additional charge. The vehicle will be staffed on a rotating basis from the experienced Stat/Southcoast EMS personnel roster. All Paramedic Supervisors are certified both in MA and RI, with an average of ten or more years’ experience in the 911 setting. Several of the supervisors have more than twenty years experience.

The new position and vehicle will serve multiple purposes, according to Stat’s Frank O’Reagan, Director of Education/Training and Quality Assurance. It will fill the role of a Rapid Response Incident Command for serious EMS calls in the town of Dartmouth. The Paramedic Supervisor will be the second medic in the back of the ambulance for critical care transports to specialized facilities, such as the Rhode Island Trauma Center. The vehicle will also assist with the day to day operations of that 911 service, acting as a conduit between the hospitals, medical director, other personnel and to the crews on the street. The 4-wheel drive capability will enable the vehicle and medics to get to tough spots in inclement weather.

The supervisor will also shadow newer paramedics to observe their progress in the field, and will assist a dispatch center with filling upcoming shifts and assigning personnel.

Carol Mansfield, CEO of Stat and Southcoast EMS, said, “Our relationship with the Town of Dartmouth is very important to us. We are pleased to introduce this new position and vehicle to our work with Dartmouth, and look forward to a continued strong relationship.”
