Wednesday: Leap Day; Black History Month Celebration at City Hall

Here are five things you should know today in East Providence.

  1. A mixture of rain and snow is expected later tonight, although little accumulation is expected. See the forecast here.
  2. Happy Leap Day! An extra day is added to February about once every four years in what is called a Leap Year.  The calendar needs this tweak because the earth doesn't rotate around the sun in exactly 365 days. There are some unusual traditions "associated" with Leap Day - read about it here.
  3. There's a Babysitting Training class Saturday at Weaver Library for kids ages 11-15, but pre-registration is required. Call 434-2453.
  4. The Affirmative Action Office of the City of East Providence presents a special Black History Month event tonight: A Celebration of African-American Women in History with Performance Artists' Brothers Keeper, also featuring Reggie Gibson.  This free event is open to all & not to be missed. It starts at 6 pm but arrive early.
  5. There's an Open House and Ribbon Cutting today, from 4 to 7 pm, at the new office of RE/MAX River's Edge.
