A grand opening for a womens-only YMCA fitness center in Riverside near Cresecent Park will be held Saturday morning, March 30.
The Riverside Healthy Living Center opened a couple of weeks ago in the former Curves fitness center at 660 Bullocks Point Ave. It is a satellite facility for the Greater Providence YMCA in Seekonk.
“We have close to 80 percent of the previous Curves members,” said Luca Del Borgo, who operates the facility as the healthy lifestyle director for the Newman YMCA.
“Most of our members are from Riverside and Barrington, some from East Providence and Rumford,” Del Borgo said. “We always wanted to get a Rhode Island location. When this opened up, we jumped at it.”
Del Borgo said the fitness center is offering circuit training, nutrition, and Livestrong programs for the same price as the former Curves -- $29 a month. Zumba and personal training are $5 more.
“We will be offering Yoga classes outside in the park when it gets warm,” he said, looking out his window toward Rose Larisa Memorial Park within sight of the facility.
If you are a YMCA member already, using the Riverside center costs you nothing extra, he said.
Stop by on Sunday morning between 9 and noon and find out for yourself, Del Borgo said. He will demonstrate what can be found at the fitness center, and there will be a Zumba class from 11 to noon.
Regular hours are Monday through Thursday from 6 to 11 am and from 2 to 7:30 pm. Friday hours are 6 to 11 am and 2 to 6:30 pm. Saturday hours are 7 to 11 am. The facility is closed Sunday.
