Celebrity Club Plaque Unveiling Ceremony

Next Friday, August 9th, 4 p.m. at the Marriott on Orms Street, The Rhode Island Black Heritage Society is hostinga significant event free and open to everyone. Local students have come together to perform a top-flight jazz tribute celebrating Providence’s legendary Celebrity Club, where greats like Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald Louis Armstrong and Ray Charles took the stage!

After the performance, titled "Jazz is a Rainbow" and directed by Robb Dimmick, there will be a plaque unveiling ceremony, at which the new permanent plaque commemorating the original site of Celebrity Club, the first integrated music venue in New England, will be revealed!  Those who can only attend the unveiling ceremony can meet us on the traffic island at the intersection of Charles and Randall Streets, 5:30 p.m. sharp.

We hope to see everyone there.

RSVP is strongly encouraged.  Please call (401)421-0606 or email riblackheritagesociety@gmail.com.
