Girls Basketball Team Takes a Shot Against Cancer

The "Coaches vs. Cancer" event will be held Jan. 24. at the East Providence High School.

If you or anyone you know has ever been diagnosed with cancer you will understand that hearing those words can sometimes be more traumatizing then the fight itself. But with the support of friends, family and our own communities, we gain much needed strength and comfort making our fight just a little bit easier! We have all been affected in some way by this horrible disease, and it’s time that we, as a community stand up to cancer and help win the fight.

"Coaches vs. Cancer" is an event in which players will be playing in honor of those who have lost a battle with cancer, or are currently in the fight against it.

The East Providence High School Girls Basketball team is holding this very special event on Tuesday, Jan. 24 and we hope that our community will come out and support us.

The day will feature a triple-header with the Riverside Girls Basketball team playing against the Martin Girls at 3:30, at . This game will be followed by a 5:15 tip-off start for our JV team, followed by a 7:00 p.m. varsity start against Classical High School. With breast cancer being a major focus of this annual event, all players, fans, and coaches are asked to wear pink.

Raffles will be held to help raise funds, but we are always looking for sponsors.

All players will be receiving sponsorship donations and our programs for the night will feature the names of those in which the players are playing for. Please show your support by submitting a donation to any of the players that are playing that day, for this very worthy cause.

Donations can be made to each of the middle schools or left with Mr. Paul Amaral in the athletic office at East Providence High School.

Checks should be made out to Coaches vs. Cancer. No donation is ever too small and we thank you in advance for your generous support.

We encourage our students and families to attend the event. I hope to see you all there! I’ll be the one in pink!
