Andrew 'Andy' Baptista, 87

The East Providence native was married for 67 years, and he was a retired longshoreman.

Andrew "Andy" Baptista, of Newman Ave. died on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Providence. He was 87.

He was the husband of Helena M. (Ramos) Baptista for 67 years. Born in East Providence, he was a son of the late Manuel and Jennie (Lopes) Baptista.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a retired member of the International Longshoremen Association, Local 1329.

Baptista was described as a family man who enjoyed his grandchildren, going to the casino, and playing cards.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, Robert, and his wife Jacqui, five grand-children, 12 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and a brother, Andre Baptista. He was the father of the late Regina and Leonard Baptista and the brother of the late Russell, Robert, and Georgianna Baptista.

Calling hours are Sunday, Jan. 13, from 4 to 7 pm from the W. Raymond Watson Funeral Home, 350 Willet Avenue, Riverside, East Providence. 

His funeral will be held on Monday, Jan. 14, at 8 am with a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Holy Rosary Church, Traverse Street, Providence, at 10 am.

Burial with military honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence.
