Charles P. Vardakis, 94, Retired Driver-Salesman

His calling hours are today and his funeral is tomorrow at Urquhart - Murphy Funeral Home, Warwick.

Charles P. Vardakis, of East Providence, formerly of Providence, died Monday, July, 1, 2013, at Linn Health Center, East Providence. He was 94. 

Born in Pawtucket on September 12, 1918, he was a son of the late Peter M. and Catherine (Iakovakis) Vardakis. He resided in Providence prior to moving to East Providence in 2012.

A driver salesman for Homestead Baking Co. and a former restauranteur until his retirement, Vardakis served in the Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church of Cranston.

Survivors include his beloved grandchildren, Lisa Guzman and Michael Stanford both of Cumberland, David Stanford of Attleboro and his two cherished great-grandchildren Zachary and Zoe Guzman. He was the loving brother of Dr. Joanne Hologgitas of Newport and Bessie Milhailides of East Greenwich, and the longtime companion of Gladys M. Borders of Cranston. He was the caring father of the late Elaine Stanford. He was the brother of the late Michael and George Vardakis, and Krisanthy Bush.

His funeral will be held Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 9 am from the URQUHART - MURPHY Funeral Home, 800 Greenwich Ave., Warwick, RI, followed by a funeral service in the Church of the Annunciation, 175 Oaklawn Ave., Cranston at 10 am. Burial will take place in the Walnut Hill Cemetery, Pawtucket. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home today, July 5, from 5 to 8 pm.
