Edward Sampaio, of Gardiner Avenue, East Providence, died Sunday morning, Feb. 24, 2013 at the Rhode Island Hospital. He was 79.
He was the husband of Maria Jose (Silva) Sampaio. Born May 17, 1933 in Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel, Azores, he was a son of the late Francisco Xavier and Lepoldina (Garcia) Sampaio.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Antonio E. Sampaio of East Providence, and a daughter, Lucia M. Melo of Bristol; a daughter in law, Anne Sampaio, and a son in law,Anthony Melo; three grandchildren, Evan, Ryan and Julia; anda sister, Eduarda Baptista of Cambridge.

His funeral will begin on Thursday at 8 am from the Rebello Funeral Home, 901 Broadway, East Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 am in St. Francis Xavier Church, 81 No. Carpenter St., East Providence. Burial will follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
