Elsie (Ferreira) Rufo, 92, Bilingual Aide in E.P. Schools

Her calling hours are today and her funeral service is Monday from Rebello Funeral Home in East Providence.

Elsie (Ferreira) Rufo, formerly of South Broadway, East Providence, died Monday, July 1, 2013, at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center. She was 92.

She was the wife of the late John L. Rufo. Born February 14, 1921, in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Lauriano and Christina (Silva) Ferreira.

She was a communicant of St. Martha's Church and a member of the Rosary and Altar Sodality. She worked as a bilingual aide for the East Providence School Department for 15 years before retiring in 1985. Earlier, she taught kindergarten at St. Elizabeth's School in Bristol. Previously, she worked as a payroll clerk at the US Naval station at Quonset Point. 

She leaves her children, John P. Rufo, of Dighton, MA, Mary Anne Sumner of West Kingston and Theresa Brophy of Warwick, and her grandchildren Cody, John and Gina. She was the sister of Manuel Ferreira of Seekonk and the late Margaret Mello, Mary Fidalgo and John and Joseph Ferreira.

Her funeral service will begin today, July 8, at 9 am from the Rebello Funeral Home and Crematory, 901 Broadway, East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Martha's Church, Pawtucket Ave., East Providence. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are respectfully requested to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Box 1000 Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148.
