Estelle MacDonald, 94

Wife of the late Dr. William MacDonald, she was a longtime member of Wannamoisett Country Club and St. Margaret's Church in Rumford.

Estelle MacDonald, of Rumford, East Providence, died on February 15, 2013 with family members at her side. She was 94.

She was the wife of the late Dr. William MacDonald. Born in East Providence, she was the daughter of the late John and Josephine (Spaight) Gregory.

She was a longtime member of Wannamoisett Country Club, a parishioner of St. Margaret’s Church, and an active member of the Providence Lying-In Women’s Auxiliary. Her many interests included travel, cooking, gardening, golf, bridge, and investments.

She was the mother of five, including the late William MacDonald, Jr. She leaves three daughters: Jane MacDonald (James Schmidt), of Newton, Mass.; Elizabeth Kiernan (James Kiernan), of Greenwich, Conn.; and Lisa MacDonald, of Rumford; her son, Gregory MacDonald (Wendy Soliday), of East Montpelier, VT, and her daughter-in-law, Karen MacDonald Thompson (James) of Mukilteo, Wash.; and her sister, Carmel Calner, of East Providence; 16 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her siblings, Mary Harrington, Ursula Shadrick, Loretta Scullion, and John J. Gregory, Jr.

Her funeral will be held on Thursday, February 21, at 10 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial at St Margaret’s Church, 1098 Pawtucket Ave., Rumford. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
