Evelyn Kurtz (Lema) Salk, 84: Worked at Providence Gas Company

Evelyn Kurtz (Lema) Salk, 84, of East Providence, died Jan. 7, 2014, according to Perry-McStay Funeral Home.

She was the beloved wife of the late E. James Kurtz to whom she was married for 41 years, and was later married to the late Norton E. Salk for 11 years. 

She was the daughter of the late Manuel and Olinda Lema, sister of the late George R. Lema and was a life-long resident of East Providence.  She was the loving and devoted mother of James Kurtz of Chandler, Arizona and Linda Kurtz of East Providence. 

She was a member of the 1947 graduating class of East Providence High School, where she received top honors, and also attended Bryant College.  She was an employee of the Providence Gas Company after her schooling through the early 60s. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Jan. 11, at 11 a.m. in St. Martha’s Church, Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence.  Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
